Introduction

When I was younger and started raising chickens, I always battled with our native West Virginian wildlife for their safe keeping. Everyone likes to eat chicken… After researching the best ways to protect my chickens, I felt that a LGD would be my best option. (Click here for what a LGD is!) So, why choose an Anatolian Shepherd Dog?

Why Choose an Anatolian Shepherd

The next step was to choose what kind of LGD for my chickens. I wanted a dog that did not require a lot of grooming. I also wanted a large dog that had a lifespan longer than 9 years. This meant it needed to be a breed that wasn’t prone to lots of health problems. I felt like the Anatolian Shepherd Dog would be the best fit. (Click here for the AKC Anatolian Shepherd Page)

My First Anatolian Shepherd

Izabelle/Izzy was my first Anatolian Shepherd. I saved up all my money from my part-time job for her. I worked at our local pet shop, Fins Feathers N Friends, in Charles Town, WV. My part-time teenage job could not raise enough money for a registered Anatolian. I found a breeder that had an oops litter with their AKC Registered Anatolian and a nonregistered rescue Anatolian. This was more in my price range, and I bought her on a spay contract. She had tall lanky legs and intense eyes. Izzy was devoted to me and did a much better job as my personal guardian companion than a livestock guardian…

My Second Anatolian Shepherd

After Izzy passed away, I wanted another Anatolian Shepherd. This time I had a better budget. I saved up money for over 2 years and researched many breeders. Rising Phoenix Anastasia was my second Anatolian Shepherd. She has proven to be an excellent livestock guardian dog and family companion! Link to her and her puppies’ page.
