Chicken Life
Chickens are funny feathered birds that come in more colors, sizes, and personalities than many people think. They have always been a joy in my life since childhood. Their feather textures and feather placements can be surprising. I’ve raised everything from meat, egg, and ornamental breeds. The egg layers are my flock majority in this stage of life.

I have kept chickens in mobile coops and stationary coops. Some chickens in the past have refused to use any coop. I have used deep bedding, thin bedding, and no bedding methods. So many bedding choices! I’ll be discussing many of these in more detail during later posts.

The best is just watching them! They live in their own little world. Pecking, scratching, flapping, dust bathing. You can hear their clucks vary from a long unexcited bawwwk, to a short higher pitched biick biick when finding a tasty treat. The rooster will call his ladies when he finds something good to eat and will even pick it up and drop it to get their attention.

If you think chickens are just a feathered animal for mass production, think again!! I’m sure you know the phrase “Pecking Order”. Well, their pecking order is just as intricate as the one at your local human workplace. We all know the office bully; the comedian; that one that always disappears when you need them, the hard worker; the snackaholic. I see all those personalities plus many more as I watch my chickens.
